Marylee M. Armour, 89, of Liverpool, passed away February 20 2014 after a long illness.
She was born in Terre Haute, Indiana and had resided in Liverpool since 1947, spending summers at the family camp at Fourth Lake, NY.
She was an active volunteer in the Girl Scouts for almost twenty years and functioned as a troop leader, trainer of trainers, and Day Camp Director at Alden’s Woods. She could tie wonderful knots.
Marylee achieved a Masters in Child and Family Studies from Syracuse University and taught at the Syracuse University International nursery school.
She was a writer, and is best known for her book about the Fourth Lake area and its mailboat captain: Heartwood; the Adirondack Homestead Life of W. Donald Burnap.
Her love of nature and its spiritual gifts (as well as her ever-growing joke collection) led her to blog at http://armourm.blogspot.com well into her 80s. One of her compilations can be read online at www.bookemon.com/book-profile/marylee-musings/91673.
Delighting in everything, Marylee loved people most of all and believed we are all called to become peacemakers. She always said, “I’m optimistic. I always wonder what is around the next corner. I expect something nice.”
Predeceased by her husband George M. Armour, she is survived by her daughter Jean (Larry) Polly of Jamesville, grandson Stephen J. Polly of Rochester, brother Joseph (Caroline) Manson of Terre Haute, Indiana, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children. Also survived by her long-time friend, Elizabeth Lindquist, of Charlottesville, Virginia.
The family would like to thank the staff of Park Terrace at Radisson for their years of exceptional companionship and care.
