Poems From the Outdoors

White Throated Sparrow

"You, white-throated sparrow,
Your mouth bulging with
Two green inchworms,
And a moth dangling,
Where are your manners?
Or your babies?
Marylee Armour,1979

Passion and Pain

I took my fresh-bathed body
on a walk
through the woods,
intoxicating winged creatures
as I went.
The creatures swarmed over me,
covering me with kisses
that were of more
benefit to them, I think,
than to me.
Marylee Armour, 1979

Musings on Moles

A mountain or a molehill
may seem insurmountable
to one who stands beneath it.
Marylee Armour, 1974

Mosquito Lunch

You've heard of "fast-food" service;
You catch it on the run.
I don't exactly relish it,
when I'm the "caught" - by some!

Marylee Armour 1979

The Mystery of Growth

A seed of corn.
a more tiny seed of hemlock tree;
We also do not know
what we will yet be.
Marylee Armour 1981

Survival

To me, it was a handful of cones
for a collage;
to the squirrel,
it was lunch.
Marylee Armour 1973

Triumphant Life

In a city parking lot, I saw God's
handiwork and marveled.
In a three-inch strip of
rock-filled earth,
between the asphalt
of a parking lot,
and a concrete sidewalk,
blue chicory, yellow coltsfoot,
and grasses, unmindful
of barren soil,
flourished!
How bright the small plants
made the city landscape!

What a small space God needs
in which to grow a life.
We must never question whether
God can till a barren heart and
plant love there.
Marylee Armour, 1975
