Deuteronomy 32:10
God sustained him in a desert land,
in a howling wilderness waste;
He shielded him, cared for him,
guarded him as the apple of his eye.
As an eagle stirs up its nest and
hovers over its young;
as it spreads its wings,
takes them up
and bears them aloft on its
pinions,
the Lord guided him.
***
In the Bible passage,
the word "him" refers to Moses,
who is one of God's beloved creations.
We learn from the text, the depth of
God's caring
for His or Her created.
Because God is impartial, God is
present with, and gives loving care
to every creation, including trees, wild plants,
animals in the wild. and us human folk.
Whatever one creation has as
a spiritual gift from the Creator,
every creation has, as well.
Ingenuity. Even trees in their growing,
sometimes call on ingenuity to
help them grow around or
beyond an obstacle,
such as a fallen log.
Can we remember a time when
ingenuity helped us to
solve a problem?
Ever use chewing gum as a temporary patch?
Steadfastness. We stay at tasks, doggedly
at times, to complete the work.
Birds too, as they build nests and rear their young,
surely draw on steadfastness.
The ready supply of spiritual help that
we find for our needs
and that wild creatures find for theirs
assures us that God truly is present,
and is impartial, in
the love and care He or She provides.
God's Leavening
The presence and power of God is
that measure of yeast the
Bible speaks of in Matthew 13:33.
God's leavening works in us, however
long it takes, to transform us into beings of Love.
God's leavening works in the world, as well,
ever so slowly but surely.
May the day come soon when all of
the world's people will find their
lives transformed from discord to harmony,
from uncaring, to caring, for one another
and from anguish to peace.
