Spring is coming

Great! I’ll get to
Recall and recite
my spring sayings
once again.

O lovely day
If March doesn’t march,
April May.

April showers bring may flowers
And Mayflowers bring pilgrims.

TEST TO CONFIRM!

If we want to know whether something is true.
We must test in our own experience
the statements of others.

Are such statements fact or fancy?

TEST A BAKING HINT,TOO!

Baking cornbread

Is the cornbread fully baked? We can test it for ourselves.
Some cooks test a baked "goody" by sticking
a table knife into the center of it. If the knife comes out
without crumbs on it, the baking is complete.
(in the old days, kitchen cooks used a a broomstraw
to test for doneness.)

In my young days, I learned another way to know whether
a pan of cornbread or a cake was fully baked,
No doubt, from folk wisdom of my mother, I learned that
"When we can smell the "cornbread, or the cake, it's "done!"

To verify that folk lore as true, others will have to test
that phenomenon for themselves.

Earthworms and Robins

I have witnessed the fact
That earthworms come out of
the ground on March 1st.
On that day
I’ve seen robins too,
newly arrived, it seems,
from the South.

One robin
cleared the snow away
in a perfect circle.
Then, with his beak,
fished for a worm,
and soon had
dinner.
