The Stone Age Still Resides in Us

One of my favorite authors, although he has been deceased
for many years.is Rene DuBois (Dubois wrote, among other books,
"So Human An Animal." He won a Pulitzer prize for his work.

Years ago, I read a copy of "So Human An Animal." into shreds
and had to buy a new copy. When that second book is found,
its condition will show that it was equally enjoyed!

Dubois writes his belief that each one of us has a remnant of
the Stone Age cave people inside of us. One feeling left over from
that distant time is a certain malaise that we feel when
the growing season is over,

Dubois states that when spring comes,
may of us have a similarly heightened
sense of life that the early people felt, as well.

We accept our days,
as a matter-of-fact.
The earliest of people,
in their unknowing
may have seen each day
as a gift,
for which to be grateful.

Those early people
must have lived wisely.
From ages that were eons ago.
they passed along to us
a part of themselves.

How remarkable are
the number of forebears
we have had and
to whom we owe
our inheritance!

Even with our knowledge of science
the Stone Age remnant in us, may wonder,
How can anyone plan ahead,
not knowing for certain, anything?
Will the earth keep turning to
bring us a new day?
Will our planet continue
around the sun,
to provide our
growing season?

I'm glad Rene Dubois lived in my
lifetime and left us a gift of his thoughts.
Dubois's illumined thought and his book,
have taught me about myself.

One stone-age trait may well
live in me.
My mind, as if from
the distant past,
finds wisdom in the land,
and guidance
from the Unseen.
