In a letter to a friend in 1999, I wrote that I had come to believe that our loving Creator not only creates life, but also provides a Spiritual Presence within each life to guide that life in all of its days.
The Spiritual Sense, when need is perceived in any species, offers guidance in ideas.
I, with my delight in nature and through fellowship with nature, have become aware of support that other creations, seemingly without language, receive to guide them in their needs.
Last fall, in an Adirondack newspaper, I was disturbed to learn from the column of a Naturalist, that the adult loons had begun their journeys South.
The columnist reported that the offspring of the parent loons, born in the summer, would not begin their journeys South until two weeks later.
I thought, "Thank goodness that the Creator guides all species " I could just hear one little loon say to the other one, "I know they said, "Fly South." But, where is South? "
I believe that the Spiritual Presence within each life, supplies thoughts, ideas, and support to assist the life to reach its full development, whether the life is a human being, an animal, a tree, or even a wild flower in a yard.
Thoughts that the Creator's Spiritual Presence supplies for our needs, are different from the ones, other lives need, and receive. (For example, I don't need to learn how to fly, or how to build a nest.)
Nevertheless, the spiritual supply of thoughts I receive, continue to be bountiful and enrich my life each day.
I enjoy, and learn from other created lives who are guided by their Spiritual Presence and also supported in their waking and in their trek to maturity. Seeds underground, when signaled, open in spring. Worms are called to wake too. When Spring came late last year, worms stayed underground and for two weeks. A robin who feasts on worms, came two weeks late, as well.
The more astounding surprise I had last summer, came from a friend, the man who cuts my grass. I said, "Do you have any idea what caused that very thin crack across my tarvia driveway? "
He said, "Don't you know?" I said, "No." He said, " We had a bad drought last summer. Your maple tree, there by the driveway, was desperate for water. It sent a root across the tarvia to find water on the other side."
How reassuring it is, as 2007 draws to a close, to have, wherever we are, the ultimate gift that every creation has, the Creator's Spiritual Presence that is always with us to guide us in our days. For such a gift, I am truly thankful.
