Joe Rao, Space.com Skywatchng Columnist alerts us all to be on hand to welcome the Full Flower Moon at 6:09 a.m. EDT.
Rao says that "flowers are abundant everywhere" Even I have flowers. The little winter pansies my daughter planted last Fall, are blooming. They seemed to have come into bloom as soon as the snow melted.
When I was outside wth my beagle Sammy, today, a passerby, said, "I see you have dandelions in bloom. When I was a kid, my mother cooked dandelion greens for our dinner. They made a good meal."
My late Hoosier mother, with her tongue, could make a dandelion stem into a mass of curls. I have yet to meet any other person who has that talent.
Rao says that this Full Moon is also known as the Full Corn Planting Moon or the Milk Moon.
Rao states, also, that we will have a second Full Moon on May 31st, at 9:04 p.m. EDT. --The Blue Moon.
He writes, "The second full Moon occurring within a calendar month is usually bestowed with this title. He adds,"Although the name suggests that to have two Full Moons in a single month is a rather rare occurrence (happening just once in a...") it actually occurs about every three years on average."
It's a pleasure to have someone such as Rao, tell me and others more about our beautiful moon. I confess that I admire our Moons from afar without ever being formally introduced, or exchanging names.
The above wisdom from Rao
I've set down for others to enjoy, as well.
