Come Ye Thankful People, Come

"Come ye thankful people, come
Raise the song of harvest home.
All is safely gathered in,
'Ere the winter storms begin."

"God, our Maker doth provide
For our wants to be supplied.
Come to God's own temple come.
Raise the song of harvest home."

The words to the hymn above were written by Henry Alford in 1844. The music was composed in 1858 by George J. Elvey. The words, with the music, can be found in hymnals. No doubt in the wonder that surrounds us, Google has it.

From childhood, I have known and sung the hymn above. The words tell us of a time when most families had gardens, or farms, on whose crops families' lives depended.

The words of the hymn, written so long ago, are still true and will be true throughout every age. "God our Maker will provide for our wants to be supplied. "

With that blessing, let our hearts raise their own songs of joy and thanksgiving.
