A Psalm of Praise

O Lord, You have given me
eyes that see.
What if I had no sight
to glimpse the sheen of birds,
spring buds on a tree,
or the blue of a cloudless sky?

You have given me
ears that hear.
What if I couldn't hear
the song of birds,
the voice of my child
or hymns of praise to You?

God, You, have given me a
heart that feels.
What if my heart did not
feel compassion for
your wounded ones,
or feel a longing
for Your Presence?

I would be limited without
sight for seeing and
ears for hearing,
But if I had no heart
in touch with you, God,
I would be so bereft,
I could not bear the pain!
